Calvin Harris is one busy DJ-producer-songwriter: Not only did the Emporio Armani model just ink a 3 year residency deal in Las Vegas this week, but he’s already gearing up to deliver yet another offering from his 2014 studio album, Motion.
“Pray To God,” the thunderous and wonderfully unexpected collaboration with sister act HAIM, will be the next single off of the LP. According to the press release, an accompanying video for the song will be released on February 9.
The single follows a series of hits, including Song Of Summer ’14 candidate “Summer,” “Blame” with John Newman and “Outside” with Ellie Goulding. Will Calvin be notching his first smash of 2015 with “Pray To God”?

Kanye West stopped by the Ellen Degeneres Show yesterday (January 28) for a very anticipated appearance — and he sure did deliver! The entertainer premiered the preview video for “Only One,” a touching ballad that tributes ‘Ye’s late mother Donda. Directed by Spike Jonze (“Flashing Lights,” “Otis”), the clip shows a more vulnerable side to the usually unattainable rapper. It stars his daughter, North West, as they hang out together on a field during one rainy day.
West revealed to Ellen that it will appear on his forthcoming seventh LP, which is still as yet untitled. “This transition from what I felt when I did Yeezus to what I feel now and we’re just creating,” he said. After releasing the video, he chatted with the host about working on more kids with wife Kim Kardashian, and that they’re very happy in their marriage. More »

:: Remember that tragic night three years ago when Nicki Minaj destroyed our eyes and ears with her religion-themed Grammy performance of “Roman Holiday”? Well, the awards are now saying they’re sorry. Show producer Ken Elrich regrets booking the rapper for that night. “I was not proud of what we did with Nicki Minaj three years ago. I thought that was a disappointment both in terms of what we did and to an extent what she did,” he said. Yikes! [PopDust]
:: Heads up, College Park! 2 Chainz would like to run for mayor of the Georgia city. He told Buzzfeed news that he is actually considering the position: “I got everybody wishing. I’m really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I’m just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications,” he said. TRUUU!! [Buzzfeed]
:: Kenny G is the main behind the infamous Starbucks Frappuccino drink — well, that’s what he wants you to think. In an interview with Bloomberg, the jazz saxophonist joked that he’s responsible for the coffee creation. “At the beginning, Starbucks didn’t have anything but coffee. And there was another company, Coffee Bean, that had something called “blended” that was a sweet drink, and people were lined up around the block,” he explained. “And I would always call Howard and say, ‘Howard, there’s this thing that they do there that’s like a milkshake or whatever’.” [Stereogum]
:: J. Cole is giving back to his community in another big way. The rapper wants to create rent-free housing for single mothers in — get this — his newly-reformed childhood house in Fayetteville, North Carolina. How awesome is that? [Huffington Post]

The Avener‘s self-titled EP finally arrived in America last week via Republic Records. It includes the French DJ’s global smash “Fade Out Lines,” which has already wreaked havoc on charts across Europe and Australia. With similarly low-key Euro-house anthems (Robin Schulz‘s remixes of “Waves” and “Prayer In C” spring to mind) doing damage on the Billboard Hot 100, the chance of Tristan Casara (his real name) repeating that success stateside has to be fairly high.
A deep house remix of an obscure Phoebe Killdeer & The Short Straws track called “The Fade Out Line,” The Avener’s earworm is as French as a thickly buttered baguette with its chic synths, sexy vocal and less-is-more approach. The result is brooding dance anthem that works just as well in a club or blasting from the car radio on your way to work. Watch the distinctly European video up top and see the rising producer’s EP tracklist after the jump. More »
Thanks to gambling website BetOnline you can now place a wager on Katy Perry‘s boobs making a cameo during her Super Bowl performance on Sunday (February 1). God bless America. What are the odds? Gamblers actually stand to lose money if the “Dark Horse” diva brings out her big balloons. However, if she keeps it PG, you will received $3.50 for every dollar you bet.
Mind you, we’re only talking about cleavage — so unless the 30-year-old performs in a nun’s habit, chances are there will be boob. Apart from being the source of a ridiculous/sexist gambling opportunity, Katy has been hyping her Super Bowl appearance with cute Instagram pics and an unlikely magazine cover. She has already described her set as strong and empowering, yet still tongue-in-cheek. Bring it on. More »
Sam Smith is in the midst of a pre-Grammys promo blitz. The Brit has spoken to V magazine, landed on the cover of Rolling Stone and graced the glossy pages of GQ. There is significant crossover in all three interviews (he’s an old soul etc), but the 22-year-old does make a couple of bold statements in the latter. For starters, he wants female artists to cover up. “I miss the days when girls would wear full long dresses and just stand onstage and sing,” the “Stay With Me” hitmaker laments. “That’s what I’m trying to bring back: that timeless element.”
The selfie-aficionado does, however, have some kind words for Taylor Swift — regardless of her hemline. “At the American Music Awards I got to sit down with her and chat,” Sam reveals. “She’s a role model. I really respect her. And she manages to sell a lot of records and make a lot of people happy financially, but also to keep that soulfulness, that honesty.”
He also clarified his stance on dating/hook-up apps. “I made a statement recently about how Grindr and Tinder and those dating apps are just killing romance,” Sam explains. “People are losing the ability to just walk up to people in a bar and say hello. Sex is on tap, isn’t it, with apps like that?” It turns out, the multiple-Grammy nominee prefers an old-fashioned approach. “It may work for some people, but I miss the mystery. I find it much more sexy when someone’s fully dressed in a suit and you’ve got to work to undress them.” More »
The Lil Wayne vs. Birdman saga has just got even more serious! The “Start A Fire” rapper was previously reported to be suing Cash Money Records for $8 million, due to a violation of contract claim that resulted in the delayed released of Weezy’s Tha Carter V album.
Fast forward to now, and that number has jumped to even greater heights. The rapper is now allegedly suing Birdman (aka the CEO of the record label and Wayne’s partner-in-crime) for — get this — $51 million! According to TMZ, he claims that Birdman is withholding tens of millions the label owes Wayne for the pushed-back album. More »
After making the leap from YouTube stardom to buzz artist with a major label deal, Tori Kelly showed the full scope of her vocal ability and songwriting prowess on 2013 EP Foreward. It was a great introduction to the 22-year-old but didn’t have the radio-friendly hit needed to take things to the next level. The “Dear No One” diva isn’t going to make the same mistake again on her debut LP — hitting up Swedish maestro Max Martin to produce lead single “Nobody Love.”
Tori teased a 15-second snippet of the track on Instagram this afternoon (January 28) and it sounds like the man behind most of Taylor Swift‘s 1989 album has helped craft another winner. “Ain’t nobody love, ain’t nobody love like you do,” the newcomer sings in the bubbly chorus. It’s very late-’90s Mariah Carey (Ariana Grande will be mad jealous!) but she has the vocal chops to pull it off. Check out the future hit after the jump. More »
It looks like Rita Ora isn’t the only one getting it right and tight this year! Straight after the singer’s Adidas campaign release, fellow UK chanteuse Ellie Goulding has revealed a fitness-based one of her own!
The “Love Me Like You Do” singer stars in a new Nike campaign as the celebrity face of the brand’s new clothing collection. “I feel quite proud to be an ambassador for women who realize that being fit is better than being skinny,” the starlet says about the opportunity. “I have to be fit to do all the things I want to on stage.” View the photos in the gallery up top, and catch the video campaign after the jump! Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, jazzy sweethearts, are keeping the Cheek To Cheek promo coming. Not only are they about to perform at the 2015 Grammy Awards, but they just released their critically hailed Cheek To Cheek: LIVE! to DVD/Blu-Ray on January 20.
The 90-minute special, filmed last year at the Rose Theater of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, features the two talented crooners performing selections from their #1 duets record. And today, the twosome just premiered footage of one of their performances from the special taping: “Goody Goody.” Seated in a giant rocking chair with an oversized hat, Gaga coquettishly pleads for Mr. Tony Bennett to take her back after going for another guy. “I’m not a rascal! I’m just a baddie baddie!” she begs. Oh, these two!
Check out Gaga and Tony’s performance up top, then let us know what you think in the comments below.
