Christina Aguilera confirmed that a new album (and, therefore, follow-up to #JusticeforBionic) is in the works. “So blissful in taking this time for creating all things blossoming new on the horizon…album, baby & beautiful music to come,” she said on Twitter.

Aguilera’s career saw a resurgence last year, as the returning Voice coach teamed with A Great Big World for surprise hit “Say Something” and Lady Gaga in a feud-ending, game-changing performance of “Do What U Want.” With her recent engagement and announcement of her second pregnancy, though, the Lotus diva appeared as if she was preparing to take time off. New reports say that Gwen Stefani will replace Aguilera on The Voice. More »

Prince's New Album

A new album (!) and Purple Rain reissue are on their way. Read More »

On April 18, Prince announced a new studio album, Purple Rain reissue and deal with Warner Bros. Records. Less than a day later, he surprised fans with a new single, power ballad “The Breakdown.” There, Prince recalls the excess he used to desire, his falsetto hovering closely over a spare keyboard, female back-up vocals and laser sound effects. “I used to throw the party every New Year’s Eve / first one intoxicated, last one to leave,” he sings.

Just a month ago, Prince stopped by The Arsenio Hall Show to talk Princestagram (the revolution will be televised) and new music. He mentioned that “The Breakdown” was his current favorite song to play, while host Arsenio Hall reminisced over how he and Prince used to party together, sorta. “I remember one time we went down the way south of Wilshire [Boulevard, Los Angeles], and we went to an after-hours spot and hung out and partied. That’s something – ”

In response, Prince stood up and started to walk away, as if totally disinterested in going there. As “The Breakdown” gives away, though, Hall wasn’t the only one thinking about how much has changed.  Hear Prince’s surprise new single and see the Arsenio Hall chat after the jump. More »

Pharrell At Coachella
He brings out Busta Rhymes, Puff Daddy and Gwen Stefani (!). Read More »

Gwen Stefani may be replacing Christina Aguilera on The Voice. Her “contract is now done” for the show’s seventh season, an NBC rep said to Us Weekly.

Reports say that NBC began searching for a coach to replace Aguilera after the Lotus siren announced her second pregnancy in February. While the network had hoped that she would stay during her pregnancy, Aguilera instead opted out. Stefani would be joining returning coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, plus newcomer Pharrell (who is replacing Cee Lo Green).

Funny enough, Pharrell hinted of a comeback from Stefani at Coachella, after she performed “Hollaback Girl” to the crowd’s surprise. “Before she leaves, I have not seen her in nine months,” Pharrell said, of the recent birth of Stefani’s third son Apollo. “Look how amazing the queen looks as she is making her arrival back to the music industry.” More »

Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” Headed For Impressive Chart Debut

Lana At Coachella
Lana turned out one of the fest's most memorable sets. Read More »

Lana Del Rey‘s breezy new single “West Coast” is headed for a strong debut on Billboard’s Hot 100 next week. The atmospheric Dan Auerbach-produced anthem should land in the top 50 (it could go higher) on the back of 110,000 to 120,000 first-week download sales. It will become the Ultraviolence diva’s fourth entry on the countdown.

This is a promising debut for several reasons. Lana’s hasn’t promoted the song outside of her rambling Coachella set, radio airplay is currently minimal and there’s no video to prop up streaming numbers. When/if those factors change, the 27-year-old could have another “Summertime Sadness”-sized hit on her hands. If nothing else, it proves that the faithful is hungry for new material. More »
