Christina Aguilera To Executive Produce ABC Family Dramedy

Revisit "Genie in a Bottle" and other songs as the album turns 15.

When Christina Aguilera was expecting her daughter, Summer Rain Rutler, she promised that she would return to the spotlight soon after she gave birth. First, she announced a new album — a follow-up to #JusticeforBionic, which may feature Pharrell. Then she revealed that she was returning to The Voice for its eighth season, along with fellow founding coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, before she made a guest appearance during its current season.

What she didn’t tell fans, though, is that she has another TV gig in the works.

Deadline reports that Aguilera is one of five executive producers of a forthcoming ABC Family dramedy, tentatively titled Hearts and Clubs. The show follows a group of Las Vegas entertainers as they “fall in and out of love,” as somehow influenced by romantic comedy Love Actually. Let’s hope that 2010′s Burlesque is another source of inspiration, as Aguilera’s fiance Matt Rutler, who she met on set, is also overseeing the show’s development. More »

Idolator's editors select 20 great singles from the past 12 months.

Last week, Meghan Trainor stopped by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to answer patients’ questions. One child asked why she wears pink in the video for her breakout hit, “All About That Bass.” (Turns out, she wasn’t all that sure herself. Go figure.) Another ended up singing that same song with Trainor, as if it was a duet, after he slyly asked, “If you could do a duet with any kid, who would it be?” But then another got the latest scoop on how she plans to follow up her Title EP: “What new music are you making right now?”

“Ooh, good question,” Trainor said. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but I’m going to: I just cut a song with Jason Derulo. It’s a duet, and it’s like a dance song, and it’s going to be real cool. I don’t know when it’ll come out – I haven’t even heard it – but I did that last week.” Watch the adorable Q&A-turned-press conference below. More »

Nicki Minaj Debuts ‘The Pinkprint Movie’: Watch

'The Pinkprint' Unfolds
Madonna's 'Rebel Heart' Available For Pre-Order
Madonna's 'Rebel Heart' Available For Pre-Order
Hear six new songs, including "Bitch I'm Madonna" featuring Nicki Minaj.

Slowly but surely, Nicki Minaj has opened up on her now-ex boyfriend Safaree Samuels. She joked with Rap Radar founder Elliott Wilson in his Inside the Actors Studio-style interview series, CRWN, about how they moved from Queens, N.Y., to Atlanta together so that she can pursue a rap career: “I was so madly in love with him.” Pause. “As a friend.” Yet as she showed to Power 105 host Angie Martinez, Minaj is still trying to heal from their recent break-up. After all, they dated for over a decade. “I tell my girlfriends, my best friends, sometimes I still want to tell him stuff and get his opinion, because –” the rapper said, before she had to fight back tears.

Now, though, Minaj is actually seen crying in her new short film The Pinkprint Movie. To the most emotional songs from her just-released third album (“All Things Go,” “The Crying Game” featuring Jessie Ware, “I Lied” and “Grand Piano”), the 16-minute clip shows Minaj torn between leaving and staying with a flame, played by model Willy Monfret, and being rescued from a car crash by another man, played by Boris Kodjoe. It’s beautifully shot but also tough to watch, because Minaj has never been this vulnerable before. Watch The Pinkprint Movie up top, then see her recent, lengthy interviews with Wilson and Martinez below. More »

Madonna Leaks Ahead Of Schedule
Madonna Leaks Ahead Of Schedule
Oof. Several demos from Madonna's upcoming record have sprung a leak today.

Surprise: It’s Madonna.

When over half a dozen demos from the Queen Of Pop’s forthcoming 13th studio album surfaced earlier this week, fans were concerned: How would Madonna react? (She wasn’t happy.) And what was the status of the upcoming, as-of-yet untitled LP? As it turns out, it only caused her to work even harder to get it all finished…and turn some of it in tonight.

As the clock struck midnight, Madge’s upcoming album, now officially titled Rebel Heart, arrived on iTunes as a surprise pre-order, complete with some incredible BDSM-lite cover artwork and 6 instant great songs available immediately upon pre-ordering the record, including “Living For Love,” “Illuminati,” “Ghosttown,” “Devil Pray,” “Bitch I’m Madonna” (feat. Nicki Minaj) and “Unapologetic Bitch.”

“I was hoping to release my new single ‘Living For Love’ on Valentine’s Day with the rest of the album coming in the Spring,” Madonna explained in a press release posted on her official website a few hours later. “I would prefer my fans to hear completed versions of some of the songs instead of the incomplete tracks that are circulating. Please consider these six songs as an early Christmas gift.” Along with the 6 new songs, Madonna will also be releasing additional music on February 9, just before the album’s release in March 2015.

What do you think of Madonna’s new songs, as well as the surprise drop? Take a listen to the Rebel Heart tracks and sound off in the comments below. More »

Demi Lovato rocks bangs in her edgy 'Fault' magazine photo shoot. See all the pics.

Demi Lovato shut down a hater on Twitter this morning (December 19) faster than you can say “delete it fat.” The 22-year-old seemd out of sorts and cryptically tweeted: “Really sucks how expectant people can be these days.. Not need to cause a scene or be pushy.” It was unclear if she was talking about the media or overenthusiastic fans, but she sensed her comments would spark a reaction and added: “Cue the hate but idgaf.”

“Bitches be fickle as fuck,” she continued as the usual internet scum piped up, making offensive comments about her weight. (They obviously haven’t noticed how ridiculously hot she looks at the moment… but that really isn’t the point). “Shut up fatty dont choke on ur mcdonalds!” one hater waged before being scalped in one of the best Twitter comebacks in recent memory. Taylor Swift’s ’1989′ Set To Block Nicki Minaj’s ‘The Pinkprint’ From Number One On The Billboard 200

Taylor Swift's '1989' Album Review
Taylor Swift's '1989' Album Review
We reviewed Taylor Swift's new LP, which finds the country queen getting exploring pop music.

That Taylor Swift juggernaut shows no sign of slowing down. According to chart predictions, 1989 should return to number one on the Billboard 200 next week — increasing its run to six non-consecutive weeks. (J.Cole‘s 2014 Forest Hills Drive briefly knocked it from the top spot with a massive opening bow). Pentatonix‘s mega-selling That’s Christmas To Me EP is predicted to fill the runner’s up slot. That means Nicki Minaj‘s much-hyped The Pinkprint will have to settle for a top five debut.

The femcee’s third album is expected to sell 160,000 copies in its first week of sale. (That doesn’t include streaming and individual downloads, which now count towards the chart). It’s healthy total, but easily the lowest of Nicki’s career. Pink Friday debuted with a whopping 375,000 copies in 2010, while Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded shifted 253,000 copies in 2012. Given the rap diva’s non-stop promotion and high-profile collaborators, you can’t help but think she will be disappointed by The Pinkprint‘s numbers. More »

The Veronicas Start A Revolution In Their Uplifting “If You Love Someone” Video: Watch

Make A Sound
The Veronicas' "You Ruin Me" Video
The Veronicas' "You Ruin Me" Video
The Veronicas' "You Ruin Me" video is a twisted ballet drama. See their 'Black Swan'-inspired epic.

The long-overdue return of The Veronicas was one of the more exciting pop developments of 2014. After years of label limbo, the Australian twins finally inked a new deal and didn’t waste any time dropping their third LP. The self-titled set has already produced one smash hit — “You Ruin Me” topped the charts in the duo’s homeland and became their first UK top 10 hit — and they look set to repeat the feat with “If You Love Someone.”

Another stellar DNA production, The Veronica’s new single is considerably more upbeat than soul-destroying ballad “You Ruin Me.” It’s not quite the furious pop/rock of “4Ever” and lacks the synths that made “Untouched” so memorable, but “If You Love Someone” is a radio-ready earworm with an instantly catchy chorus. The Tapehead-directed video finds Lisa and Jess starting a love revolution inside a warehouse. Watch up top. More »

Hallelujah! Gwen Stefani’s “Baby Don’t Lie” Finally Gets A Couple Of Decent Remixes: Listen

Gwen Stefani On Working With Charli XCX
Gwen Stefani On Working With Charli XCX
Gwen Stefani opened up about writing a song with rising star Charli XCX without meeting her!

When Gwen Stefani‘s “Baby Don’t Lie” dropped in October, I felt a little underwhelmed. It was cute and undeniably catchy, but hardly the stone-cold smash needed to kick off her comeback. Cut to December and the Benny Blanco/Ryan Tedder-produced pop anthem feels like a masterpiece in comparison to the frankly-embarrassing follow-up, “Spark The Fire.” As it happens, the song turned out to be something of a grower and might have taken off with even a slight promotional push.

At least, “Baby Don’t Lie” is getting some traction in clubs thanks a pair of belated, but very good remixes. EDM veteran Kaskade teams up with KillaGraham (one half of dance duo Milo & Otis) for a trap-infused overhaul, while Los Angeles-based DJ Davie Matthias transforms the perky pop song into a house monster. Maybe a skilled producer can make “Spark The Fire” slightly more bearable? Until then, check out Gwen’s latest remixes after the jump. More »

Lana Del Rey Teams Up With Emile Haynie On “Wait For Life”: Listen To A Teaser Snippet

2014's Best Pop Singles: Our Best Picks
2014's Best Pop Singles: Our Best Picks
Idolator's editors choose their favorite tunes from this year!

We’re aware that Lana Del Rey has been continuously working on new music even after the release of Ultraviolence, but we didn’t expect it to come so soon! This time around though, the project is for Emile Haynie‘s rumored upcoming album. A teaser of a new track (either titled “Wait For Life” or “Falling Apart”) from the Grammy-winning producer’s project has surfaced. He posted a video on Instagram, which plays a brief snippet that sounds like a soaring ballad with intense vocal wailing.

The two have worked together many times before, mainly on her Born To Die and Paradise projects, and the results are always stunning. No word yet on when Haynie’s album is coming, but hopefully it’ll drop early next year. Del Rey’s sophomore LP was released back in June, and features tracks like “West Coast,” “Shades Of Cool” and the title track. Take a listen to the Instagram snippet after the jump! More »
