A couple of days after Questlove called Iggy Azalea‘s summer smash “Fancy” a game-changer for hip-hop, Charli XCX has defended her collaborator’s right to rap with an American accent. “People give Iggy a hard time because she’s Australian and white and female and apparently that’s a weird thing, which I don’t get,” the “Boom Clap” hitmaker said.
“People also view me as an underdog so I think it’s cool that we came together and had this girl power moment and were No. 1 in the states for seven weeks,” she continued. “We really proved everyone wrong, which I think was really cool.” Who would she like to work with next? Charli has her eye on a Coldplay collab. “I think Chris Martin is one of the best, top line writers around at the moment. I’ve always thought his melodies are incredible.” More »
The Hilary Duff comeback is now in full swing, and we’re learning more about what to expect with each passing day.
After teasing a remix of her forthcoming single “Chasing The Sun” last night at Marquee in NYC, the “Come Clean” pop princess revealed in an interview with PopJustice that her upcoming album isn’t quite going in the electronic direction she initially embarked upon when we spoke to her last year. Check out what she had to say after the jump. More »
Sing hallelujah! La Toya Jackson returns to the music scene today (July 25) with catchy club anthem “Feels Like Love”. The stunning 58-year-old is perhaps better known for her best-selling books and hit reality TV show these days, but Toy first found fame in the family business. 1980 disco anthem “If You Feel The Funk” set the tone for her career but she became a veritable cult legend with scandal-pop classics “Sexbox” and “Sexual Feeling” later in the decade.
“Feels Like Love” is considerably more refined than those tunes but it’s still outrageous in its own kooky way. La Toya coos seductively about tearing up the dance floor with her man before serving dictator realness with a hilarious spoken interlude (“I want everyone in every country to stand up and do what I say!”). As for the video? The thinking man’s Jackson puts on a master class in glamor, allure and elegance. Watch up top. More »
We’re just going to set this here and quietly-but-quickly back away: It’s Joan Rivers being asked by TMZ at LAX about the current Israel/Palestine conflict. This alone prompted quite the tirade from Rivers, but TMZ being TMZ, they followed up a series of questions about Joan’s opinion on the launching of rockets and the loss of innocent lives by informing the comedienne about Selena Gomez “tweet[ing] a pro-Gaza” message. (Actually, what she said was, “Please pray for those families and babies today. Please always remember what’s important in life.”)
Joan was not having it and began to hurl insults at the “Come And Get It” singer, including, “Let’s see if she can spell Palestinian!” Watch below. More »
What’s a Mother Monster to do when she’s not busy raving and dancing with her Monsters on the ArtRave or forcing her french bulldog puppy Asia to pose for photos on Instagram? (#SaveAsia). She’s busy getting all jazzy on us, that’s what.
As we’ve known for a while, Lady Gaga is recording a pop standards record called Cheek To Cheek with the legendary Tony Bennett. The two have teamed up time and time again — most recently popping up during Bennett’s set at the Montreal Jazz Festival — while teasing tracks from the long-delayed duet record.
Last night, Gagaloo invited us into the studio (via Instagram) to show us that she’s still working on that new album. “Studio Rattin’ with the Bennett Boys,” she wrote on one photo. “It’s a Standard night #CheekToCheek,” she captioned another. “Dance with me, I want my arm about you.” (That line, of course, coming from the classic “Cheek To Cheek.”)
Check out more photos of the “Applause” goddess cutting tracks after the jump. Are you excited to hear Cheek To Cheek? More »
Hip hop’s biggest never-was, Azealia Banks, is currently without a label. And you know what — she doesn’t really give a flyig f***. The other day Twitter’s biggest bully posted a still from the video for her upcoming independently-released single “Heavy Metal And Reflective” (out July 29). And now we have a super-short preview clip of what’s sure to be the visual of the year — or at least of the hour the day it premieres. (It is Azealia Banks, after all — the long-lasting attention span of the masses doesn’t really enter the picture.)
Head below to watch the (t)rapstress ride by a camera on a motorbike in the desert and — what else? — flip the bird. More »
