Britney Jean might be Britney Spears most personal album but it unlikely to be her best-selling one. The opus is predicted to miss the top spot on the Billboard Hot 200 next week — making it her first LP to debut lower than number one since Blackout, which reached number two in 2007.
According to sales predictions, 115,000 – 120,000 copies of Britney Jean will be snapped up by fans this week. Not bad considering the lack of promotion and underperforming singles but still not enough to stop Garth Brooks leaping from number three to number one with Blame It All On My Roots — a two CD/six DVD box set available only at Walmart. (He is predicted to sell 150,000 copies). More »
While One Direction score their biggest album yet in America with Midnight Memories, another British troupe of tousle-headed young lads is making a splash back on the other side of the pond — and the buzz is getting louder. The Vamps, a new four-piece of apple-cheeked teens, already notched a #1 hit in the UK with their first single, the Bruno Mars-penned “Can We Dance,” but their second single, “Wild Heart,” is even better: A rollicking, Mumford-esque dance-rock gem with storming production and a thrilling, euphoric chorus.
There’s shades of “Story Of My Life,” here, but it’s bigger than that — a chorus that all but demands you sing along to it. More »
Christmas without Mariah Carey would be like Thanksgiving without turkey. Thankfully, Saint Nick’s spirit animal takes her duties seriously and officially kicked off the festive season last night (December 3) with a performance at Rockefeller Center’s 81st annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Mimi belted out a holiday medley in two suitably glamorous ensembles. There was a body-hugging red dress, which she teamed with long black gloves, and a gem-studded, sparkly white gown. It goes without saying that Mariah looked absolutely divine. Her performance will be aired on NBC tonight. More »
Everytime (Britney spelling!) A Great Big World perform their surprise hit ballad “Say Something” live, it’s an angelic feather in Christina Aguilera‘s wig. The world at large stumbled upon the song when the duo hit up The Voice last month and staged a moving rendition of the duet with coach Aguilera on national television. “Say Something,” originally released nearly a year ago sans the pipes of Xtina, suddenly shot up iTunes and earned all involved an invitation to perform the track live at the American Music Awards. The results of that event are now in: “Say Something” has moved into the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.
Yes, while such odes to shot-taking and boinking as “Not Myself Tonight” and “Your Body” have failed to garner Christina much chart success in recent years, the throaty Mouseketeer has carved out quite a niche as The Go-To Features Diva — something underscored by the fact that her last three Top 10 hits have come courtesy of cameos on Maroon 5‘s “Moves Like Jagger” (#1 in 2011), Pitbull‘s “Feel This Moment” (#8 in 2013) and now A Great Big World’s “Say Something” (#10, so far, in 2013). Well! Feeling celebratory? Feeling festive? Feeling fine? Good: Celebrity DJ (just go with it) DJ Cassidy has unveiled the first single from his as-yet-untitled upcoming LP, “Calling All Hearts,” featuring certifiable talents Jessie J and Robin Thicke. The trio are set to head out on tour together next February in a fifteen-city national tour, and Cassidy’s track ties the three talents together nicely.
“Calling All Hearts” is a sparkly, retro-flair confection with powerhouse vocals (wailing, really) from Jessie and typically smooth crooning from Thicke; unsurprisingly, they sound velvety-smooth together. More »
Lady Gaga revealed on the AMAs red carpet that she’s a big Chief Keef fan, and now video has emerged proving it (as if we needed evidence for such a benign admission). As you can see up top, Gaga is smoking a cigarette and getting her human doll makeup done ahead of her Japanese TV appearance, all while Keef’s “3Hunna” bumps in the background.
So could a collaboration between Gaga and the hardscrabble Chicago driller be on the horizon? It doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility: after Kanye West got Keef to sing on a track alongside Justin freaking Vernon, a Gaga feature would only be the second strangest thing he’s done. Plus, the two have already flirted over Twitter. See their exchange below. More »
