The Spanish pop outfit Le Mans was initially brought to our attention by the great indie label Grimsey—the 1994 song "Un Rayo De Sol" was the first Le Mans song we heard, and it's hard not to be instantly smitten with its walk-in-the-park groove. Their breezy, seductive pop output continued until 1998, when they announced that they were breaking up through three successive 7-inch covers spelling "F-I-N."

Now that Brazil has been placed under the same file-sharing scrutiny as the rest of the world, we can't think of a better time to give the country its own "Listen Without Prejudice" write-up. Alas, our Brazilian collection is a bit lacking, so we'll have to focus on Soul Jazz's excellent Sexual Life Of The Savages collection, which chronicles São Paulo's new-wave and post-punk scene in the early '80s. For reasons best left unsaid (it involves a cruise ship and karaoke), one of your Idolators spent some time this month in the Helsinki airport, which is basically a heavily secured shopping mall. After stocking up on reindeer patties, we grabbed a two-disc set called Suomipoppia 8, a title that translates into English as "garish, tangentially related album cover."
